After having a long debate in the Supreme Court of India passed historical judgment on the ‘Triple Talaq’ and made the practice of this is illegal on 30 July 2019. And said that the practice of this ritual will be considered as a criminal offence which will be punishable with 3 years of imprisonment. And, the decision will have the enacted power from 1 August 2019 onwards.
Presentation of Triple Talaq Bill in Parliament
The government of India was first presented the Bill in the Parliament on 22 August 2017. The MP’s of many parties opposed the bill. The name of them are as follows RJD, AIML, BJD, AIDMK, Indian National Congress, and all Indian Muslim League, and said that this bill should be sent to the advisory committee of the Law but facing the tough opponent this bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on 28 December 2018, due to its majority in the lower sabha.
After winning in the Lok Sabha, presented the Bill in the Rajya Sabha, where they do not have the majority but instead of not having a majority and facing a long debate the bill was approved on 30 July 2019. Where in the upper house the National Congress Party favored the BJP party and voted in the favor of this Bill. The famous politician Kapil Sibbal represented the Congress Party in the Rajya Sabha supported the Triple Talaq Bill and voted in the favor of it.
