Hook pass is a term related to the game of basketball.

Specifications of the game

Basketball is a team sport wherein two teams of five players. They oppose each other on a rectangular court.

They compete with the primary objective of throwing a basketball (approximately 9.4 inches or 24 cm in diameter. The ball is thrown through the defender's basket, which is 18 inches or 46 cm in diameter.

The basket is mounted 10 feet or 3.048 m high to a backboard. Two such baskets are present at each end of the court.

A field goal is generally worth two points. If the goal is made from behind the three-point line, then three points are awarded. In case of a foul, the timed play is stopped, and the player fouled is given free throws.

The team having the maximum points at the end of the game is declared the winner. In case of a tie, overtime of the play is initiated.

Rules for Gameplay

Players must advance the ball by bouncing it while walking, running (dribbling), or passing it to a teammate.

Players may use a range of shots – the layup, the jump shot; on defense, they may take away the ball from a dribbler, intercept the passes, or even block shots, in which either offense or defense may collect a rebound shot.

It violates the rules if a player lifts or drags one's pivot foot without dribbling the ball, carries it for long durations, or holds the ball with both hands and then resumes dribbling.
