The second phase of the 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election was held on 1 April 2021. A total of 30 assembly constituencies went to polls in this phase, spread across 10 districts of the state.

The districts that went to polls in the second phase were:

  • Alipurduar
  • Bankura
  • Birbhum
  • Cooch Behar
  • Hooghly
  • Howrah
  • Jhargram
  • Kolkata
  • Nadia
  • Paschim Medinipur

The total electorate in these 30 constituencies was 76 lakh, and the number of polling stations was 10,620. The turnout in the second phase was 80.43%, which was slightly lower than the turnout in the first phase (81.84%).

The second phase of the election was seen as a crucial test for the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), as it was contested by a united opposition front led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP had made significant gains in the first phase of the election, and it was hoping to build on this momentum in the second phase.

The results of the second phase of the election were a mixed bag for both the TMC and the BJP. The TMC won 22 of the 30 seats, while the BJP won 8. The remaining 10 seats were won by other parties, including the Left Front and the Congress.

The results of the second phase of the election showed that the TMC was still the dominant force in West Bengal, but the BJP was gaining ground. The final outcome of the election would depend on the results of the remaining six phases of voting.

The 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election was a closely fought contest, and the results were not known until the final phase of voting. The TMC won the election by a narrow margin, and it retained power in the state. However, the BJP emerged as the main opposition party, and it is likely to pose a serious challenge to the TMC in future elections.
