Indira Gandhi  (19 November 1917-31 October 1984) was the Prime Minister of the Republic of India for 3 consecutive innings from 1966 to 1977 and then in the fourth innings from 1980 to 1984 until her political assassination. She was the Prime Minister. She was the first and the only female Prime Minister of India.

From 16 July 1969 to 27 June 1970 she was the first woman Finance Minister of the country and she held this position as Prime Minister. When it comes to non-Congress governments, the distinction of being the first woman minister as finance minister goes to Nirmala Sitharaman who is the current finance minister and leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
