The process of committing the crime of Vikas Dubey, who killed eight jawans of a police team that went to Kanpur late Thursday night, started in the year 1990. Vikas, son of a farmer resident of Bikaru village, beaten the farmers of Nawada village in the year 1990 to avenge the father's insult.
The first case was registered against Vikas Dubey at Shivli police station. In the Brahmin-dominated area, development got political patronage to reduce the clout of the backward. At that time, former MLA Nekchandra Pandey patronized the development. In the area of development, he used to fight with bullying, as soon as he reached the police station, the phone calls of the leaders started. After a few days, the police also stopped watching the development.
In the year 2000, Vikas shot the first murder of Inter College Assistant Manager Siddheshwar Pandey. In 2001, Vikas spread his terror in the area by shooting dead Minister of State Santosh Shukla inside the Shivli police station. The panic of development in the area around Bikeru and Shivli was such that at one point, votes started falling in the elections.
In the electoral rivalry, the rivalry of development came from Lallan Bajpai. After taking his step in the recovery of the land and market of Shivli region, there was a growth in the field of development. On the basis of political patronage and bullying, Vikas was elected as a member of the District Panchayat and his family was established in three nearby villages.
Chubepur police station has 60 cases registered against the development in several relevant sections including murder, attempt to murder, extortion, loot and extortion. Action has also been taken against Gunda Act and Gangster against Vikas. In the year 2017, Vikas was arrested by UP STF.
On 3 July 2020, eight policemen, including a Superintendent of Police (DSP), were killed, while seven policemen were injured while attempting to arrest Dubey and his men. The autopsy report showed that the DSP was brutally murdered, while other police had different bullet wounds from different weapons, suggesting an ambush. Police later recovered other weapons including an AK-47 rifle and an INSAS rifle. Kanpur IGP said that at least 60 people ambushed the police team, whose number was only 30. Call records revealed that Dubey was in contact with several policemen who leaked information to him. Subsequently, the Kanpur administration demolished his house with the same bulldozer used by Dubey and his men during the ambush. Then 25 police teams were formed to arrest Dubey and his associates. Dubey was arrested on 9 July 2020 in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.
