The Motor Vehicles Amendment Act, 2019 amended the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 bringing about changes in 92 sections. It included the provisions for National Register for Motor Vehicles, National and State Registers for Driving Licence, Motor Accident Fund and the constitution of Motor Vehicle Accident Fund by the Central Government. The Act enhanced penalties for all types of violations of safety measures, and gave power to State Government to increase penalties further. It also provided for settlement by insurance companies and cast duty on insurer to satisfy judgements, orders and awards against persons injured in respect of third party risks.
