Citizenship Amendment Act- 2019

What is CAA?

The CAB-2019 amends the Citizenship Act 1955, which has been amended many times before. CAA-2019 grants citizenship to Hindus, Jains, Parsis, Sikhs, Christians and Buddhists from 3 countries (Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh) who came to India on or before 31 December 2014. No specific documents are required to give citizenship to these oppressed immigrants. In order to grant citizenship, a period of 05 years has now been set in place of 11 years of residence in India.
OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) card holders and states like Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura and parts of Assam are exempted from CAA-2019. Inner line permits provide protection to these states.
The majority populace of these 3 countries (Islamic states) is not included in the act. The people of India need not fear. CAA-2019 is based on the concept, "Likes should be treated alike and unlike should not be treated alike".
