“The Indian Institute of Science” is located in the Silicon Valley of India, i.e. “Bengaluru” the capital city of Southern India ‘Karnataka’.

The Indian Institute of Science is also known as ‘IISc’. The institute was founded in in the year 1909. The institute was founded by “Jamsetji Nussarwanji Tata”, the Government of India, and the Maharaja of Mysore. It is also popularly known as “Tata Institute”. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is a Public University in the field of Research and higher education in the field of Science, Engineering, Design, Management, and PhD Programmes as well.

To build the Institute, in the 19th century, Maharaja of Mysore, Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, donated about 370 acres of land to build the college campus. The university is having 6 main departments: Biological Sciences, Mechanical Sciences, Electrical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Interdisciplinary Research, and Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

There are more than 75 scholars of the Institute who won the ‘Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize’ (SSB) in the field of Science and Technology. It is a top quality scientific research institute of India and is ranked 1st in the list of 'university' and the 'overall' category from the last 3 consecutive years i.e. from 2016 to 2018 in the NIRF rankings issued by the Government of India.

The Institute is granted as the Deemed University status in the year 1958. The other research Institutes near to Indian Institute of Science are Raman Research Institute, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Wood Research Institute, and Central Power Research Institute (CPRI). In the year 2018, the Institute was ranked under 251–300 in the world by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings of 2018.
