The International Rice Research Center (IRRI) is located in the city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. Government of India This institute has been started for improved rice production in the country.   The Rice Research Center of South Asia Regional Center is the largest international institute in Eastern India. Here research is done to improve the yield and quality of rice. 

Paddy cultivation in eastern India states depends on rainfall. Paddy cultivation in eastern India is not good due to flooding and sometimes drought. Even rice that is paddy is not of advanced quality.

The International Rice Research Center in Varanasi deals with these problems. The central government aims to top rice exports. Currently, India is a major importer of rice. The central government is working to promote agriculture. Every food tech student who has done M.Phil or Ph.D. can work on a contractual basis as a researcher.
