Every year on January 24, India celebrates National Girl Child Day. This festival was started in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development of the Government of India.

The following are the objectives of National Girl Child Day,

  • Draw attention to the injustices that girls experience in the country.
  • Raise awareness of a girl child's rights.
  • Raising awareness about the importance of a girl's education, health, and nutrition.

The National Girl Child Day 2021
is being commemorated around the country with the goal of raising awareness about the dropping Child Sex Ratio (CSR) and creating a good environment around respecting the girl child.

The anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Scheme was also commemorated.

Punjab has declared January 2021 to be the 'Month of the Girl Child.' Dheeiyan Di Lohri is another initiative that has been launched.

On January 24, National Girl Child Day, the Odisha state government honors individuals and organizations that have worked to make villages free of child marriage. Odisha has a child marriage rate of 21.3 percent, which is lower than the national average of 26.8 percent.
