There are instances when the
iOS crashes for no apparent reason, and the device freezes as a result. Owners who aren't used to it or haven't had a situation like this before may become panicked, even though there's no cause to be. The interesting part is that when they bring their phone to the shop, it only takes a minute for it to start up again in the hands of a technician, and they're like 'OMG!' 'How did you pull that off?' This is how technicians deal with problems like this...
- For 15 to 20 seconds, press and hold the Volume Down button and the Power key (sleep/wake button) simultaneously.
- The white Apple logo will appear if there is enough battery left to turn the iPhone on.
- When this happens, let go of both keys and wait for the device to completely reboot.
This is referred to as a Soft Reset. It's hardwired into the phone, so pressing and holding the relevant keys should cause the phone to restart.
