It's crucial to be selective about the applications you enable to send push alerts. When you initially start an app, it will usually ask you if you want it to send you push notifications: 'App Would Like To Send You Push Notifications — OK or Don't Allow.' When you give an app permission to send you to push notifications, you're allowing it to operate in the background and inform you of anything that comes out, such as a text message or other pertinent updates and alerts. While these alerts are useful in that they keep you informed, they can also deplete the battery life of your iPhone.

• Go to Settings-> Alerts-> then pick the applications you wish to allow to send you to push notifications. Otherwise, you may disable such features for certain apps. To turn off notifications, hit the app's name and click the Allow Notifications option.
