If this is only a one-time hitch after an update, a soft reset or restarting your iPhone should solve the problem. To soft reset your iPhone 8, follow these steps:

  1. Hold down the Side/Power button until you get the Slide to Power Off instruction.
  2. To turn your iPhone entirely off, drag the slider to the right.
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds, or until the Apple logo displays, and then release.
There's no need to make backups because nothing on your device will be affected.
