- Recovery Mode is a last-ditch debugging option for an iPhone experiencing operating system issues. Recovery Mode allows an iPhone to run and connect to iTunes or a computer without having to load up the iOS.
- Connect the syncing wire to your computer after plugging it into your iPhone.
- iPhone 8 and newer: Press and hold the Volume Up button for a few seconds, then press and hold the Volume Down button for a few seconds. Then, until the Recovery Mode screen appears, press and hold the Side button.
- In the Finder or iTunes a popup appears offering to update or restore the phone. After that, click Update. This action attempts to resolve the issue by updating the operating system while preserving your data.
- If the update fails, restart your iPhone in recovery mode and select Restore this time. This option will replace your phone's data with an older backup or a new iOS installation. That isn't ideal, but it might be your only option right now.
