How to fix iPhone X notifications that play in silent mode

There's a setting called Emergency Bypass that might be related to this problem. It's a Do Not Disturb (DND) feature that allows particular contacts to circumvent DND mode, enabling audio, notifications, and vibrations from that contact to go through even if DND is turned on on the iPhone. This might be the problem if your iPhone X only plays alerts in quiet mode for specific contacts. Check your contacts settings, then search for the Emergency Bypass option to be sure this isn't the problem. If you come across this option and it's turned on, try disabling it. This is how you get to this menu:

  1. Open your iPhone's Contacts or Phone app.
  2. Look for the contact and determine if the Emergency Bypass option for that contact is enabled.
  3. Select Edit.
  4. From the contact details, choose Ringtone.
  5. Look for a sign that says 'Emergency Bypass.'
  6. To turn off the functionality, touch the switch next to it if required.
  7. Restart your iPhone X once you've completed all of the modifications. Then check to see whether the problem has been resolved.
