A forced restart simulates the removal of the battery. It functions similarly to a soft reset or a conventional restart, but exclusively via the hardware keys. When dealing with software issues that cause the iPhone to freeze or become unresponsive to touches, this restart is suggested. The iPhone X, unlike earlier iPhones, does a forced restart in a unique method. To begin with, here's how it's done:
- Press and release the Volume Up button quickly.
- Then tap and hold the Volume Down button for a few seconds.
- Finally, hold down the Side/Power button until you see the Apple logo.
You may need to press and hold the Side/Power button for a long time (approximately 30 seconds) until the Apple logo appears on the screen.
A forced restart will not wipe any of your vital data from the internal memory, therefore it's a safe method to start with.
