The Internet Connection Services for Microsoft Remote Access Service (RAS) that ships with Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack and Microsoft Windows 2000 include IAS. For remote users that connect to their corporate network, the Internet Authentication Service (IAS) provides authentication and authorization services. IAS can also be used by system administrators to track connection consumption for the purposes of corporate accounting and billing.
Each authentication request and answer, as well as client logon and logoff times and connection speed, can all be recorded by IAS. This data can be entered into a database and stored.
