  •  Make a note of the location and name of the errant ghost file.
  • Insert your installation CD into the CD/DVD ROM drive on your computer. Restart your computer and select the installation CD as your boot option. It's possible that you'll need to set your computer to boot from the CD/DVD ROM drive first.
  • If you're using Windows 7 or Vista, go to 'Repair your computer.' If you're using Windows XP, press 'R' when the 'welcome to Setup' screen opens.
  • Choose the Windows installation that includes the ghost file. If your machine is running Windows XP, you may additionally need to enter the administrator password.
  • For Windows 7 or Vista PCs, choose 'Command Prompt.' If you're using Windows XP, the command prompt should appear automatically.
  • In the command prompt, type 'cd [path],' where [path] is the location you noted in Step 1. Enter the code
  • 'del [ghost file],' where [ghost file] is the name of the ghost file to be deleted. Restart your computer.
