Battery Settings should be checked and changed.
It's always useful to check the battery % at the top menu, where the battery shows, so you can see how quickly it's depleting.
If you hover your mouse over the battery symbol, it will display which apps are consuming the most power.

    1. Click Battery Preferences from here.
    2. You may specify the amount of time your display should wait before turning off and dim the display when a Mac is not connected to power in this section.

    Dim the screen's brightness.
The brightest lightbulbs use more energy, and the same is true for the illumination on your computer screen. Look up Displays settings in Preferences and make a few tweaks there. Check the option that says 'Automatically change brightness.'
