Steps to Fix It: Make sure your Mac

  • is turned on.On your Mac, press the Power button. If you don't hear a startup bell, no fan or drive noise, and no graphics, video, or visuals of any kind appear on your screen, your Mac isn't turning on at all. You haven't even gotten to the point where it won't start.
  • Examine your power supply.-Check sure the power is turned on and that the Mac is properly plugged in. Alternatively, if it's a laptop, make sure the battery isn't dead - and if it does, give it a chance to charge before deciding that it won't operate.
  • Make a Power Cycle.-If your Mac isn't responding, you can try a power cycle, which entails turning it off and on again after cutting the electricity to it. On a MacBook, press and hold the power button for ten seconds. When the Mac's power is forcibly cut, you'll frequently hear a squeak. All should be well after 10 seconds of waiting and resuming. If your Mac is a desktop, you must unplug it and wait at least 10 seconds before connecting it back in and attempting to restart it.
