- Both Mac computers must be connected to the same Wi-Fi or wired network; both Mac computers must have a unique computer name; the person using the source Mac computer (in this case, a MacBook Pro) must have correct credentials for a user account on the target Mac computer; and the target Mac computer's privileges and permissions must be configured to accept remote connections.
- Assuming that both the source and target Macs are already connected to the same network, follow these steps to connect the two Macs:
- Mac Information on Target: The target Mac is the computer to which you'd like to connect your MacBook Pro.
- Click the Apple logo in the upper left corner of the menu bar, then System Preferences, then Sharing in the System Preferences window. This will bring up the Sharing window.
- From the drop-down menu, select File Sharing, Remote Login, and Remote Management. On the target Mac, this allows the three sharing services.
- From the menu bar, select Go, then Connect to Server. The Connect to Server dialogue box appears.
- Click Browse, then double-click the name of the destination computer (in this case, Peter's Mac) in the Network box, then click Connect.
- Click Connect from the top bar, then input the credentials of a user account (usually an admin account) on the target machine (peter in this case), and click Connect. If you want to re-connect to the target Mac in the future, you can check the Remember this password in my keychain box before clicking Connect to save the user's credentials on your MacBook Pro.
