  • Select any PDF on your computer by right-clicking it
  • .In the pop-up menu, hover your cursor over 'Open With' to see your current default viewer. It will appear at the top of the page, above a thin grey line. This is commonly referred to as 'Preview.'
  • Click 'Get Info' with your pointer.
  • A pop-up window will appear, displaying general information such as the PDF's size, creation and modification dates, and more.
  • Your default programme will be displayed in a grey box under the 'Open with:' tab. To expand the tab if it is closed, click the small grey arrow to the right of it
  •  To open a menu of options, click the box with the name of your current default PDF viewer — underneath 'Open with'
  • Select the default viewer that you want to use.
  • After you've chosen your new default viewer and it's displayed in the box, click the grey 'Change All...' option under 'Use this application to open all documents like this one.'
  • A pop-up will appear, asking you to confirm that you want to make the modification. To confirm, click 'Continue.' By reopening the 'Get Info' pop-up, you can switch to another default programme or return to 'Preview' at any moment.
