Neel Mukherjee is the London based Indian Writer. He wrote many novels which got critical acclamation. His first novel was ‘Past Continuous’ and published in the year 2008, and received many other awards when the book was re-published in U.K. in the year 2010. ‘The Lives of Others’ is his second novel and published in the year 2014 by Chatto and Windus Publication in the United Kingdom and W.W. Norton & Company Publishing House in the United States. The Book was also get shortlisted for the ‘Man Booker Prize’ in the same year i.e. on September 9, 2014.
In India, he is from Kolkata and completed his schooling in the same city as well. The novel ‘The Lives of Others’ was based on the plot in Kolkata in the 1960s of some political activities. The book deals with the generation differences. The book received many critical acclaims, as well as, from ‘The Statesman’ and ‘Independent’ Newspapers.
For his first writing ‘Past Continuous’ he received ‘Vodafone-Crossword Book Award’ in the year 2008. Whereas, for his second writing ‘The Lives of Others’, he was shortlisted in the Man Booker Prize. For this novel, he also received ‘Encore Award’ from the Royal Society of Literature for the best second novel in the year 2014. His book was also shortlisted in ‘DSC Prize for South Asian Literature’ in the year 2016. His lasted novel is ‘A State of Freedom’ and was published in the year in July 2017.
