Rajasthan lies to the northwestern side of the country. It is the largest state of India in terms of area 342,329 sq km (132,139 sq mi). Rajasthan comprises of the “Great Indian Desert” which is known as the Thar Desert. It is also known as “Rajasthan Desert”. Rajasthan shares its borders with the Pakistani provinces of Punjab to the northwest and Sindh to the west along the Sutlej-Indus river valley. Rajasthan also shares its borders with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to the northeast, Punjab to the north, Gujarat to the southwest and Madhya Pradesh to the southeast. The capital of Rajasthan is Jaipur which is the largest city of the state. There is a total of 33 districts in the state. Vasundhara Raje from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) is the Chief Minister of the state. Rajasthan is of a unicameral legislature with 200 seats and 25 Parliamentary constituencies. Kalyan Singh is the Governor of the state. The total population of the state according to 2011 census is 68,548,437. Rajasthani is being spoken in the state however Hindi is the official language which is also widely spoken by the citizens of the State.
