Guru Tegh Bahadur (1st April 1621- 24th November 1675) was the father of Guru Gobind Singh. Guru Tegh Bahadur (Nanak IX) was the ninth of the ten Gurus of the Sikh religion. Guru Nanak Dev was the first Guru of the Sikh religion.
Guru Tegh Bahadur was born in Amritsar, Punjab, Mughal Empire (present-day India). Guru Tegh Bahadur is known for his contributions to the Guru Granth Sahib the holy book of the Sikhs. His 116 hymns are registered in Guru Granth Sahib. Guru Tegh Bahadur was beheaded by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in Delhi for refusing to convert to Islam on 24th November 1675. 24th November is celebrated every year as Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom day also known as Shaheedi Divas of Guru Tegh Bahadur. Guru Tegh Bahadur founded Anandpur Sahib and Patiala. Other names of Guru Tegh Bahadur are The Shield of India, Mighty of the Sword, The Ninth Master and The True King.
