He is also the Minister of Earth Sciences and he assumed office on 9th November 2014. He is handling these portfolios under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He was the Minister of Health and Family Welfare from 26th May 2014 to 9th November 2014. For the 2013 Delhi Assembly elections, Dr Harsh Vardhan was the Chief Ministerial candidate for the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP).

Later in 1983, Dr Harsh Vardhan received the degree of Master of Surgery in Otorhinolaryngology from the same university. Since childhood, Dr Vardhan has been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS).
