Piyush Goyal is the Minister of Railways. He assumed office on 3rd September 2017 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

At present, he is also serving as the Minister of Finance (temporary charge). He assumed office as Finance Minister on 14th May 2018.

Piyush Goyal was born on 13th June 1964 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He belongs to the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP). Apart from being the railway minister Mr Goyal is also the Minister of Coal and he assumed office on 3rd September 2017 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Piyush Goyal simultaneously served as the Minister of Power (independent charge) and Minister of New and Renewable Energy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi from 26th May 2014 to 3rd September 2017. He was also the Minister of Coal (Independent Charge) from 26th May 2014 to 3rd September 2017 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He was the Minister of Mines (Independent Charge) from 5th July 2016 to 3rd September 2017. He represents Maharashtra as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha. He is a Member of Parliament since 5th July 2016. He was reelected on 3rd June 2016 representing Maharashtra as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha or Council of States (the upper house of the parliament). He was an Investment banker and has served on the board of State Bank of India as well as Bank of Baroda.

The Ministry of Railways under the Government of India is responsible for rail transport in the country. Formed on 16th April 1853 the headquarters of the ministry is Rail Bhavan 1, Raisina Road, New Delhi. The state-owned Indian Railways is headed by the Chairman of Railway Board. Minister of Railways is appointed by the President of India on the advice of the Prime Minister. Minister of Railways heads the Ministry of Railways.
