Devaragunda Venkappa Sadananda Gowda is the Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation in the Indian Government. Mr Sadananda Gowda assumed office on 5th July 2016 under Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi.

Mr Sadananda Gowda served as the Minister of Law and Justice from 9th November 2014 to 5th July 2016 under Prime Minister Modi. Mr Gowda was the 37th Minister of Railways under Prime Minister Modi from 26th May 2014 to 9th November 2014. Mr Gowda was the 20th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 4th August 2011 to 12th July 2012. He also represented Mangalore as a Member of Parliament from 17th May 2004 to 18th May 2009.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI) consists of two child agencies. The agencies are Department of Statistics (National Statistical Office (NSO)) and Department of Programme Implementation. After the merger of the two departments, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation became an independent ministry on 15th October 1999. The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation focuses on the quality aspects of the statistics released based on surveys and censuses conducted by the state and central government. The Department of Statistics is subdivided into Central Statistical Office (CSO), National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) and the Computer Center. The Department of Programme Implementation is subdivided into Twenty Point Programme, Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme and Infrastructure Monitoring and Project Monitoring. According to an Act of Parliament, the Indian Statistical Institute is declared as an autonomous institute of national importance.
