What group of people formed the republican party?

In Ripon, Wisconsin, previous individuals from the Whig Party meet to build up another gathering to restrict the spread of servitude into the western domains. The Whig Party, which was framed in 1834 to contradict the "oppression" of President Andrew Jackson, had shown itself unequipped for adapting to the national emergency regarding subjection.

With the fruitful presentation of the Kansas-Nebraska Bill of 1854, a demonstration that broke down the terms of the Missouri Compromise and enabled slave or free status to be chosen in the regions by well-known power, the Whigs crumbled. By February 1854, abolitionist subjection Whigs had started meeting in the upper midwestern states to talk about the development of another gathering. One such gathering, in Wisconsin on March 20, 1854, is by and large recognized as the establishing meeting of the Republican Party.

The Republicans quickly picked up supporters in the North, and in 1856 their first presidential applicant, John C. Fremont, won 11 Northern states out of 16. By 1860, most of the Southern slave states were openly undermining withdrawal if the Republicans won the administration. In November 1860, Republican Abraham Lincoln was chosen president over a partitioned Democratic Party, and a month and a half later South Carolina formally withdrew from the Union. Inside six more weeks, five other Southern states had taken after South Carolina's lead, and in April 1861 the Civil War started.

The Civil War immovably distinguished the Republican Party as the gathering of the triumphant North, and after the war the Republican-commanded Congress constrained a "Radical Reconstruction" strategy on the South, which saw the entry of the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth alterations to the Constitution and the conceding of equivalent rights to every single Southern resident. By 1876, the Republican Party had lost control of the South, however, it kept on ruling the administration until the decision of Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933.
