Who Prime Ministers was administered the oath of office by the Vice President (then acting President) B.D. Jatti?

BD Jatti administered the oath of office to Prime Minister Morarji Desai during his tenure as acting President of India. Morarji Desai was the oldest prime minister to take oath at the age of 81. Morarji Desai was the fourth prime minister of India from 24th March 1977 – 28th July 1979. He was from Janata party. He was also the second deputy prime minister of India from 13th March 1967 – 16th July 1969. During this tenure, Morarji Desai was deputy to the then prime minister of India Indira Gandhi. Apart from being the prime minister of India Morarji Desai also served as the Chief Minister of Bombay state from 1952 – 1957. Morarji Desai was awarded Bharat Ratna the highest civilian award of the Republic of India in the year 1991. In the year 1990, he was awarded Nishaan-e-Pakistan the highest civilian award given by the Government of Pakistan. Both these awards are given in recognition of the exceptional service/performance of the highest order without distinction of occupation, position, gender and religion.

Basappa Danappa Jatti alias BD Jatti (10 September 1913 – 7 June 2002) was the fifth Vice President of India. He served as the Vice President of the country from 31st August 1974 – 30th August 1979. During his term of Vice President, BD Jatti also served as the acting President of India because the then President of India Fakhruddin Ali Ahmad died in office. He was acting President of India from 11th February 1977 – 25th July 1977. Apart from being the acting President of India and vice president of India, BD Jatti was also the governor of Odisha from 8th November 1972 – 20th August 1974. BD Jatti also served as the Lieutenant Governor of Pondicherry (now Puducherry) from 14th October 1968 – 7th November 1972. He was also the Chief Minister of Mysore from 16th may 1958 – 9th March 1962.

During his tenure as the acting President of India, BD Jatti also administered the oath of office to Mr Jagjiwan Ram and Mr Raj Narain. Mr Jajjiwan Ram was sworn in as the new Defence Minister of the country while Mr Raj Narain was sworn in as the Health and Family Planning Minister.
