The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi K Palanichamy was presented with UNESCO Award of Merit for the conservation activities taken up at the iconic Ranganathaswamy Temple located at Srirangam Tiruchirapalli without affecting the traditional splendours of the temple. The award was given by the UNESCO Asia Pacific (awards for cultural heritage conservation of historic structures without affecting their heritage value) region for the reconstruction activities of the temple.

Located in Srirangam, Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, India Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple is a Hindu temple. The temple is constructed in the Dravidian Architecture and is dedicated to Ranganatha (a reclining form of the Hindu deity Vishnu). This temple is among the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Vishnu. Srirangam which is also known as Thiruvarangam in Tamil is an island in South India. Actually, Srirangam is part of the city Tiruchirapalli.
