In 2018, AANCHAL THAKUR created history after becoming the first Indians skier ever to claim a medal in international skiing event. She won the bronze medal in 2018 ALPINE EDGER 3200 cup which was held in Turkey and was organised by the FEDERATION INTERNATIONAL DE SKI.
In a major boost to India before the start of winter Olympics in South Korea from February ,When 21 year old Aanchal Thakur created history on Tuesday by becoming the first Indian to win an international medal in skiing. The Manali resident grabbed a bronze medal in the slalom race category at Alpine ejder 3200 cup organised by Skiing’s International governing body Federation International de ski at the palandoken Ski centre in Erzurum in turkey.
Aanchal Thakur after winning the medal, in a tweet expressed her happiness and described her feat as” unexpected”. Finally something unexpected happened. My first ever International medal Federation International Ski race. And the end Turkey served me well, “she wrote in a tweet in which she also posted images of her podium finish.

Aanchal Thakur is an Indian female Alpine skier she represented India at the 2012 winter youth Olympics that took place in Innsbruck in the 2012 winter Olympics. she took part in the Alpine skiing- Girl’s slalom and Girl’s giant slalom events.
Aanchal lives in Barua, a small village in Himachal Pradesh Manali district.Coming from a country with the lack of infrastructure and support for winter sports, Aanchal’s accomplishment is truly remarkable months of training have finally borne fruit.
Aanchal’s biggest support has been her father, Roshan Thakur who is also the secretary general of the winter games Federation of India. Roshan has been a mentor to his daughter and believes her International victory will bring more visibility to India’s skiing fraternity.
Skiing runs in her blood but it has not been a easy ride thus far for the 21 year old who is the student of DAV College in Chandigarh. While Aanchal's grabbed attention now, brother Himanshu also and Alpine skier, competed in the Sochi winter Olympics alongside luger Shiva keshavan. Aanchal if it is was not for the efforts of her father,there was no way she could have pursued skiing.
