Former Chief Minister of Gujarat Anandiben Patel has been appointed the Governor of Madhya Pradesh. Anandiben Patel assumed office as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh on 23rd January 2018 succeeding Om Prakash Kohli who was handling the additional charge as Governor of Madhya Pradesh since September 2016.
Anandiben Patel was born on 21st November 1941 at Kharod, Bombay Presidency, British India (now in Gujarat India). Anandiben Patel belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Anandiben Patel was the 15th Chief Minister of Gujarat. She succeeded Narendra Modi who is now the Prime Minister of India. Anandiben Patel served as the 15th Chief Minister of Gujarat from 22 May 2014 to 7th August 2016. She represented Ghatlodiya constituency in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. Anandiben Patel was the Member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from 2002 to 2017 representing Ghatlodiya constituency. She also represented Mandal Constituency from 1998 to 2002 as a Member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. Anandiben Patel served as the Member of Parliament from 1994 to 1998. She represented the state of Gujarat in the Rajya Sabha (the Council of States or the upper house of the parliament). At present Anandiben Patel is handling the additional charge as Governor of Chattisgarh succeeding Balram Das Tandon. She assumed office as Governor of Chattisgarh on 15th August 2018.
Anandiben Patel was the first woman Chief Minister of Gujarat. She served as the Cabinet Minister of Education under Chief Minister Narendra Modi from 2002 to 2007. She also handled the portfolios of Women and Child Welfare, Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities from 1998 to 2007. She handled the Ministry of Revenue, Disaster Management and Capital Project, Roads & Buildings, Women & Child Welfare, Urban Development and Urban Housing in the Government of Gujarat under Chief Minister Narendra Modi from 2007 to 2014.
