Mr Om Prakash Rawat is the current Chief Election Commissioner of India. Mr O P Rawat assumed office on 23rd January 2018 succeeding Achal Kumar Jyoti. Om Prakash Rawat is a retired IAS officer belonging to Madhya Pradesh cadre from the 1977 batch. O P Rawat is the 22nd Chief Election Commissioner of India. Appointed by the President of India the Chief Election Commissioner of India draws a salary of ?250,000 per month. Om Prakash Rawat served as the Public Enterprise Secretary of India from 3rd March 2012 to 31st December 2013. 

Om Prakash Rawat was born on 2nd December 1953 in Uttar Pradesh, India. O P Rawat served as the Election Commissioner of India from 14th August 2012 to 22nd January 2018. Om Prakash Rawat served both in the Union Government of India and in the state government of Madhya Pradesh. O P Rawat served as the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. He served as the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Defence of the Union of India. O P Rawat served as the Principal Secretary (Women and Child Development), Principal Secretary (Tribal Welfare), Principal Secretary (Women and Child Development) and Principal Secretary (Commerce and Industries). In the Madhya Pradesh government, O P Rawat served as the Excise Commissioner of the state. He was the District Magistrate and Collector of Indore and Narsinghpur districts. O P Rawat also served as the Vice Chairman of Narmada Valley Development Authority. 

Om Prakash Rawat completed his graduation and post graduation from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi (BHU). He has the degree of BSc as well as MSc in Physics. O P Rawat also received a postgraduate degree in Social Development Planning from the United Kingdom in 1989. In the year 2009 Om Prakash Rawat received ‘recognition of forest rights' award from the state government of Madhya Pradesh.
