Elamkulam Manakkal Sankaran Namboodiripad born on 13th June 1909 in Perintalmanna, Madras Presidency, British India was the first Chief Minister of Kerala. He was in office from 5th April 1957 to 31st July 1959. Elamkulam Manakkal Sankaran Namboodiripad (EMS) again served as the Chief Minister of Kerala for the second time from 6th March 1967 to 1st November 1969 after the President’s rule. Elamkulam Manakkal Sankaran Namboodiripad was associated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) since 1964 and served as the General Secretary of the party from 8th April 1978 to 9th January 1992. Elamkulam Manakkal Sankaran Namboodiripad passed away at the age of 88 on 19th March 1998 at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India.
