The two brothers, ‘Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’ and ‘Ganesh Damodar Savarkar’ organized the revolutionary ‘Abhinav Bharat Society’ in the year 1904.

The society was founded at Nasik during the Mitra Mela. At that time Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was a student and taking his education in ‘Fergusson College’ at Pune. Eventually, society grows many folds which included a huge number of revolutionaries and political activist. As well as the Society was having many branches in India, and he took this with him in London while taking the education of Law. Under this society, some assassinations of British officials have been carried out, which result in the conviction and imprisonment of both Savarkar brothers. Due to which the society has been disbanded in the year 1952.
Mitra Mela was the secret society established by Savarkar brothers in Nasik in 1899. Then, due to the good results and appreciation by the attendants, the society has been renamed by Vinayak Damodar Savarkar as Abhinav Bharat Society in 1904, at meeting in Maharashtra which was attended by about 200 members.

The revolutionary Abhinav Bharat Society resulted in the assassination of many British High Commandants, which includes ‘Lt. Col. William Curzon Wyllie’ assassination at the India House in London, the assassination of District Magistrate of Nasik, ‘A.M.T. Jackson’ in India, at a renown ‘Nasik Conspiracy Case’ in the year 1909, by Anant Laxman Kanhare.
The investigation in the Nasik Conspiracy Case resulted in the involvement of Savarkar brothers and the Abhinav Bharat Society in the assassination of Jackson. As a proof, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was found producing twenty Browning Pistols to India, in which one of the pistols was used to carry out this conspiracy. As a result, Savarkar was punished with the imprisonment in the Central Jail in the Islands of Andaman in 1910.
