The award was presented to the winner by the filmmaker ‘Adoor Gopalakrishnan’ with Rs. 50,000/- and a memento at a function organized in Kozhikode on February 17, 2018. The award was presented to Mr. Ramakrishnan for his contribution to Literature. The award was announced in a press release by the ‘Akbar Kakkattil Trust Secretary’ “A.K. Abdul Hakeem”.

The award ceremony was organized on the occasion of Death Anniversary function of ‘Kakkattil’ on February 17. The award has been given in the honor of a Kerala Novelist and an Indian Short-story writer ‘Akbar Kakkattil’. His inspirational writing gives birth to a new genre in Malayalam Literature. His first teacher service story in Malayalam was ‘Paadham 30’. He started writing and publishing his short story at a very tender age of 14 years. As well as, started writing a regular column for children in a Malayalam Weekly ‘Mathrubhumi’.

He categories his collection in of work in 54 books. He wrote many short stories and published his first book in the year 1978, and his last book was published in the year 2014. As well as, he wrote many Novelette, Novels, Essays, Criticism, Life-Sketch, Interview, Memoirs, Play, Cinema, Children’s Literature, Service Story, and Travelogue. In addition to this, he received many awards and honors as well. His first award was ‘Merit Scholarship for Sanskrit by State Government’ for the year 1967-70, and his last award for his quality works was ‘First Academic Council Award of Kerala Aided Higher Secondary Association’ in the year 2013.
