On March 25, 2022, Dr. Chandrashekhar Kambar was elected as the new President of Sahitya Akademi. Sahitya Akademi is India's national academy of letters and is responsible for promoting literature in the country. Dr. Kambar will take over as the President of the academy from Prof. Indira Nath, who completed her tenure in March 2022.

Dr. Chandrashekhar Kambar is a well-known Kannada writer, playwright, and poet. He has written over 25 plays and several collections of poetry and essays. He has also been a professor of Kannada language and literature at the University of Bangalore and the Central University of Karnataka. Dr. Kambar has received several awards for his literary work, including the Jnanpith Award in 2010.

Dr. Kambar's election as the President of Sahitya Akademi is significant as he is the first Kannada writer to hold the post in over three decades. The last Kannada writer to hold the post was U.R. Ananthamurthy, who served as the President of the academy from 1993 to 1998.

As the new President of Sahitya Akademi, Dr. Kambar is expected to promote literature in India and encourage the growth of regional languages. He is also expected to work towards improving the relationship between the academy and regional language writers and promoting translations of regional language literature into other languages.
