Why do we need a constitution?
India is the most diverse country. Diversity of religion, caste, taste, opinion etcetera & all are required to live together which can cause conflicts. To get rid of all conflicts they have to abide by the some basic rules.
Constitution is the set of basic rules that maintains the collaboration, to get things in proper order.
So where did the urge to make a constitution come from?
An official demand for a Constitute assembly to frame the constitution of India was made for the first time by NARENDRA NATH ‘NAREN’ later known as M N ROY(Manabendra Nath Roy).Indian political philosopher, radical activist & father of Indian Communism of 20th century.

This unmatched political philosopher born on 21st march 1887,Arbelia. The idea to make constitution assembly for India first time put forward by M N Roy. This demand to make constitution came into light in 1934 & finally in 1940 this official demand was accepted by British Government in ‘August offer’.
What is ‘August Offer’?
‘August offer’ that was the promise made by Viceroy of India, Lord Linlithgow on 8th August 1940 for the expansion of the Executive Council, recognition of Indian’s right to frame their Constitution.
This offer rejected widely as it was against the Indian’s interest. Under ‘August offer’ they demanded complete independency which was the major reject of this offer in 1940.
How did this offer come about?
During the Second World War after the fall of France, Holland & Belgium left Britain in the danger against the Nazi Germany. British Government declared the participation of India without consulting the leaders. This flustered the Indian National Congress. They denied for the support & put forth two demands in order to give support.
1. Complete Independence of India after the war
2. Interim Government formation during the war.
In response of demand British Government came up with their on tems & conditions & then viceroy of India, Lord Linlithgow (on behalf of British Government) declared the terms to get India’s cooperation which known as ‘AUGUST OFFER’.
How was the Indian Constitution made?
Formally, constitution made by the constitution assembly for undivided India. Later the first meeting held on 9th December 1946 and reassembled constitution assembly for divided India on 14th August 1947.
