The Indian cricket team has been blessed with some of the best spin bowlers in the world, and currently, one of their spinners has risen to the top of the ICC Test Player Rankings. Ravichandran Ashwin, the off-spinner from Tamil Nadu, has claimed the top spot in the latest rankings released by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Ashwin's rise to the top of the rankings comes after his impressive performance in the third Test match between India and England, where he took eight wickets and scored a century in the second innings. This was Ashwin's fifth Test century, and he became only the second Indian cricketer after Kapil Dev to score a century and take a five-wicket haul in the same Test match.
Ashwin's ascent to the top of the ICC Test Player Rankings is well deserved, as he has been one of the most consistent performers in Test cricket over the past few years. He has taken 413 wickets in 79 Test matches, including 30 five-wicket hauls and 7 ten-wicket hauls. Ashwin is also the fastest bowler to reach 400 Test wickets, achieving the feat in just 77 matches.
Apart from his impressive bowling statistics, Ashwin is also a handy lower-order batsman, with four Test centuries and 14 half-centuries to his name. He has an excellent average of 27.72 with the bat in Test cricket and has been a vital contributor to the Indian team's success over the years.
Ashwin's rise to the top of the ICC Test Player Rankings is also a reflection of India's dominance in the longest format of the game. India has been the number one Test team in the world since October 2016 and has won their last seven Test series in a row. Ashwin has played a crucial role in India's success, and his performances have been instrumental in many of India's victories over the years.
