Brown married thrice times, the first time to Charles Smith in 1963, whom she separated to remarry Leonard Buckner later that year. Linda Thompson married William Thompson after Buckner died in the 1980s. Linda Brown died in Topeka, Kansas, on March 25, 2018. She was 75 at that time.

Linda Carol Brown was an American advocate for equal opportunity. Brown became the center of the classic 1951 United States liberties lawsuit Brown v. Board of Education as a teenager in 1954. Brown was in the 3rd grade at the time and wanted to attend Sumner School in Topeka, Kansas. Her entrance was refused due to her race. Her action against the primary school division was eventually successful, and the ensuing Supreme Court decision abolished the separate but equal concept' created in Plessy v. Ferguson. Brown went on to become a teacher and human rights activist.
