Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was the first Indian Prime Minister to enter the region on June 12, 2005, urging for a fair end to the conflict.

Manmohan Singh is a statesman, economist, and scholar who acted as India's 13th Prime Minister from 2004 till 2014. He is now a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, serving the region of Rajasthan. Singh, a part of the Indian National Congress, was India's first Sikh Prime Minister. Singh was the first prime minister to be re-elected after serving a complete five-year tenure after Jawaharlal Nehru.

Singh's family came to India following the 1947 split from Gah, West Punjab, in what is now Pakistan. Singh served for the United Nations from 1966 to 1969 after receiving his doctorate in economics from Oxford. When Lalit Narayan Mishra employed him as a mentor at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, he started his bureaucratic profession. Singh held numerous prominent positions in the Indian government throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including Chief Economic Advisor, Governor of the Reserve Bank, and Chairman of the Planning Commission.
