The President of India is chosen indirectly by an electoral college made up of members of the Indian Parliament and the Legislative Assemblies of the States and Union Territories (having an elected assembly). As a result of the 42nd Amendment, which was extended by the 84th Amendment, the number and worth of votes are drawn from the population in 1971 instead of the current population, to encourage family planning programs in the states by ensuring that states are not penalized for lowering their population growth and development.
A separate electoral college, composed of members, elects the Vice-President (elected as well as nominated).

The following people make up the presidential electoral college:
  • selected associates of the Rajya Sabha
  • selected associates of the Lok Sabha
  • selected associates of each state's Legislative Assembly
  • selected associates of each union territory maintaining a Legislative assembly

The provisions of Article 55(2) of the Indian Constitution assess the price of votes cast by members elected of state legislative assemblies and both houses of parliament. Those are the names of various people and their votes in the presidential election. The 1971 census is still being used and will remain until 2026, according to the 84th Amendment.
