India’s most renowned boxer MC Mary Kom has won her fifth gold at the 2017 Asian Championship. Mary Kom on November 8, 2017, defeated North Korea’s Hyang Mi Kim by 5-0 in 48 kg category and won her fifth gold medal.
After knocking out Japanese boxer Tsubasa Komura in the semi-final she made her path clear to enter the finals of 2017 Asian Championship. Till now MC Mary Kom has won 5 golds and one silver medal in her entire career.
Born on 24 November 1982 in Chungneijang Mary Kom are an Olympic boxer and a five-time World Amateur Boxing champion, and the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the six world championships.
Mary Kom is the only boxer of our country who qualified for the summer Olympics which were been held in the year 2012. Mary also ranked number 4th AIBA World Women's Ranking Flyweight category.
For his exceptional contribution towards the game, she has been awarded India’s highest sporting award the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2009 followed by the third highest civilian award the Padma Bhushan in 2013, apart from winning the Arjuna Award in Boxing and Padma Shree (Sports).
