Samudra Gupta of the Gupta dynasty is known as the Napoleon of India and he was given this title by historian V Smith. Been impressed with his exceptional skills and great military conquests known from the 'Prayag Prashati' written by his courtier and poet Harisena, who also describes him as the hero of a hundred battles.
Samudragupta of (r.c 335-c.375) son of Chandragupta Maurya was the fourth ruler of the Gupta Empire.

Even though he was having elder brother's but he was chosen by his father to become the fourth ruler of Gupta Empire. Some history reports say that Samudra Gupta became the ruler after defeating his rival Kacha who was an obscure prince of the dynasty.

History claims that he was one most restless and a great conqueror, Samudragupta is demonstrated on his coins both as a muscular warrior flaunting the “marks of a number of wounds which he got in battlefields” as well as a poet and a musician.

Samudragupta annexe a large number of kingdoms in Aryavarta to the Gupta Empire. The defeated at least twelve kings of South India.
