Urjit Patel is the current Governor of Reserve Bank of India, Urjit was officially appointed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 4 September 2016 for the post of Governor. Before becoming the RBI governor Urjit Patel was an RBI deputy governor, he looked after monetary policy, economic policy research, statistics and information management, deposit insurance, communication and Right to Information.
Urjit Patel completed his graduation in Economics from the London School Economics, from Oxford University in the year 1986. He got his Economics Degree from Yale University in the year 1990; Urjit was also at the IMF India desk during the transition time 1991 to 1994.
Under his tenure, the BJP government demonetized the ?1000 and ?500 currency notes and it was one of the most important decisions to diminish the ratio of corruption, black money, fake currency and terrorism from 9 November 2016.
