In many sports, players are not allowed to run out of the designated boundaries or court/field of play to hit the ball. Doing so typically results in a violation or a point/penalty awarded to the opposing team. The rules regarding boundaries vary from sport to sport, and here are some examples:

1. Tennis: In tennis, players must hit the ball within the court's boundaries. If the ball goes beyond the boundaries, it is considered out, and the opponent is awarded the point. Players cannot run outside the court to hit the ball and must return it within the defined lines.

2. Cricket: In cricket, there are strict rules governing the boundary. Batsmen and fielders must remain within the boundary markers. If a fielder catches the ball while standing outside the boundary, it is counted as a six (the highest score for a single hit). Batsmen, on the other hand, can hit the ball over the boundary on the full for a six, but if it bounces before crossing the boundary, it's worth four runs.

3. Soccer/Football: In soccer, the ball must remain within the field of play. If it crosses the touchline (side boundary) or goal line (end boundary), it is considered out of play, and the opposing team is awarded a throw-in, corner kick, or goal kick, depending on where it went out.

4. Basketball: In basketball, the ball must remain within the court's boundaries. Players cannot step out of bounds while possessing the ball, and if they do, it results in a turnover, with the opposing team gaining possession.

5. Volleyball: In volleyball, the ball must stay within the court during play. If it lands outside the court's boundaries, it results in a point awarded to the opposing team.

6. Badminton: In badminton, the shuttlecock must stay within the court's boundaries during a rally. Hitting it out of bounds results in a point for the opponent.

While some sports allow players to go beyond the boundaries to retrieve the ball (e.g., cricket fielders can retrieve the ball outside the boundary), they must release the ball from within the field when making a throw or throw-in. These rules are in place to maintain fairness, the integrity of the game, and player safety by preventing unnecessary actions or collisions outside the designated playing area.
