West Indies registered their name in the books of history by winning the first ever world cup which was held in the year 1979 by beating England with 92 runs. The 1979 World Cup was hosted by England and 8 teams participated in the World Cup and since then the format has been remained unchanged as you may have seen that there are only 8 teams who play world cup which is been divided into 2 groups.
