One day International which is also known as limited overs cricket match was first held on 5 January 1971 between Australia and England at the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) Australia. An interesting story which is attached along with the origin of limited over matches that it wasn’t pre-decided that match will be one day.

When was first ODI cricket match played?

Actually, when three days of the third test between Australia and England got rushed by rain the expert officially decided to end the match and decided and scheduled a match of 48 overs for both sides.

Australia won the first One day International by defeating England with 5 wicket and one more interesting things which I just want you to know is that the first One day International was been played in those white kit and the red ball which we usually see in Test cricket.
